Whistler, BC (February 14, 2012) – The NWT Boardsport Association has something to boast about. Two members, Andrew Matthews and Molly Milligan, have qualified for the Slopestyle LG/FIS World Cup in Stoneham, QC, February 25-26th.

Matthews started as an alternate, but was quickly called up to take part as a competitor.

“I’m pretty stoked to have the opportunity to participate in the World Cup”.

It was Matthew’s top performances from the past year that vaulted him into a competitive spot qualifying him for Slopestyle and Big Air.

Milligan, coming off an injury at the Burton Canadian Open is joining Matthews in Quebec. Milligan has competed at the last two World Cups, placing 5th and 8th respectively. Milligan states that this year the competition will be different. Now that Slopestyle is an Olympic discipline there will be more international competition than previous years.

“It will be interesting with international competition. I’ll be able to see who is throwing down what and where I rank up compared to the competition”.

The World Cup will help Matthews and Milligan to determine the adjustments that are needed to improve. Milligan’s goal is to “lay down a good basic solid run”.

Both Matthews and Milligan qualified for the World Cup Slopestyle discipline. Slopestyle is a new Olympic discipline that will be presented for the first time during the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. In Slopestyle the rider is judged on the originality and quality of each performance, on each jump and each rail.
